"Move On When Ready" A New Facet of the Dual Enrollment Program

Students and Parents:

The State of Georgia has rolled out new legislation to allow students to leave for their junior or senior years to go on to college.  The ACCEL program that has traditionally been your pathway to do this is still intact.  The ACCEL program is still the preferred way for a student to move on to college before he or she actually graduates from high school.  The Move On When Ready program is only different from ACCEL in the following ways: the ACCEL program is paid for by HOPE Scholarship money (which there is a cap on- see https://secure.gacollege411.org/Financial_Aid_Planning/HOPE_Program/Georgia_s_HOPE_Scholarship_Program_Overview.aspx), the Move On When Ready program is paid for by the State of Georgia.  Another difference is that the student must be at the college full time on the Move On When Ready program, where as a student can spend some of his or her day at the college and some of it at the high school on the ACCEL program.  On the surface, this seems like a pretty neat deal, but there are some issues with this new opportunity has that a student and a parent will want to be be aware of before attempting it.  Any student who would be interested in this possibility would need to schedule a meeting with his or her counselor and with his or her parents so that these issues can be discussed in full.  In the meantime, please read the following attachments:
