Welcome Back!!

The North Oconee Guidance Staff hopes that this was a great summer for you and your student.  We have a full year (as usual) mapped out for all of the students at North Oconee.  Each year, we look for ways to communicate the North Oconee Counseling mission to students and parents.  This year, we would like to introduce you to our mission through this blog, which is going to be very helpful for you throughout the rest of the year.

Our mission is to offer guidance services that will embody North Oconee's moto: "Rigor, Relevance, Relationships."

Rigor- Each year, we work with students to encourage them to reach for their highest potential.  This includes taking the toughest classes that he or she can handle, stepping out into the unknown by volunteering or finding leadership opportunities, and helping them prepare for the real world demands.  Stress care is an integral.

Relevance- "Begin with the end in mind..."  This idea encourages students to navigate current decisions with the ultimate destination in mind.  The experiences that a student has in high school, both in and out of class, help to prepare that student for life outside of high school.  So often, we assume that means "college-life," but it doesn't stop there.  We want students to be able to see the relevance in all experiences and how they prepare them for life.

Relationships- It is our heartfelt desire that no student graduates from North Oconee High School able to say, "I don't even know who my high school counselor was."  We want each student to look to his or her counselor as a dependable source of guidance and counseling.  We want each student to believe that they have someone in their corner walking them through difficult times, celebrating their victories, and kicking them in the rear-end when they are not giving their best.  Trust is the foundation of this relationship.  Trust is developed out of a student knowing that his or her counselor has the student's best interests at heart.  This relationship is birthed out of spending time together.

All of this is achieved through one on one meetings with students, class room guidance lessons, various programs planned throughout the school year for both parents and students, timely communication through the guidance blog, and working with fellow educators to provide the very best education for the individual student.  This can be a overwhelming task sometimes, but we believe that it is one of the things that makes North Oconee High School an amazing place to be.
