The counselors from North Oconee High School and from other Oconee County schools will be coming to first block classrooms to present a lesson on the signs of suicide the week of March 14th through 18 and on March 25th. It is well recognized that if a youth is going to harm themselves that they will most of the time communicate that to someone before making attempt. This program is designed to teach students how to handle this type of situation. Additionally, we will talk to students about the signs of depression or suicidal thoughts that they may be struggling with. We have put together a video that will go into greater detail about this program. It is six minutes long and will give the parent a much deeper insight into the reasons for this program and how we will work with students who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. Please click on the video link below to start this very important message. Additionally, we are including a handout that gives parents guidance on the symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts and will connect parents with resources.
