Save The Dates

On January 15th at 6 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium, NOHS Guidance will partner with the Georgia Student Finance Commission and OCHS Guidance Office to once again offer the Parent Financial Aid Meeting.  Any parent is free to attend, but it will be mainly geared to parents of seniors.  This will be a great place to get answers to questions about HOPE, FAFSA, Stafford Loans, Expected Family Contribution, Subsidized vs. Unsubsidized loans, and Pell Grants.  If you do not know what any of this means, we will reserve a front row seat, as you will definitely not want to miss this meeting on information that will dominate the life of a senior and his or her parent for the next 4 to 8 years.  This will be a valuable hour that you won't have another opportunity to attend.

On January 17th at 6 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium, NOHS Guidance will invite representatives from our four local institutions of higher learning- Athens Technical College, Gainesville State College (soon to be named University of North Georgia), Piedmont College, and the University of Georgia to come in and present information about Joint Enrollment Options which include the ACCEL Program, Move On When Ready, and Dual Enrollment.  Each of these programs are amazing ways for students to earn college credits while still a student in high school.  Many North Oconee students have gotten into this program and have done very well.  As with any great program within a bureaucracy, there is a good bit of red tape that must be navigated to do this.  This meeting will make both you and your student aware of what needs to be done in order to make this dream a reality for your student.  It is guaranteed that this meeting will reduce the amount of mistakes, angst, and stress that can be experienced in pulling off this opportunity.  We will see you there.

**If your student is wanting to do one of the early college credit programs mentioned above, an SAT or ACT score is going to be a must.  Go ahead and register for the earliest one available to allow for early acceptance and thus increase your options for classes.
