Georgia Trial Lawyers Association Launches 7th Amendment Scholarship Essay Competition

Atlanta, GA – The Georgia Trial Lawyers Association has announced the launch of its 7th Amendment Scholarship Essay Competition. Designed to recognize college-bound high school seniors who exhibit a keen awareness of the societal and judicial value of the 7th Amendment Right to Trial by Jury and Georgia’s Civil Justice System, the Scholarship Essay Competition will ask applicants to address the following question:

Since the ratification of the Bill of Rights in 1791, the 7th Amendment Right to Trial by Jury has been the cornerstone of the Civil Justice System. And yet, in the two-plus centuries since, the Right to Trial by Jury has been under near-constant assault. In your opinion, what role does the 7th Amendment play in the 21st Century, and why do you believe that it is important to safeguard this Right?

“We are thrilled to offer this scholarship opportunity and to recognize some of Georgia’s best and brightest students,” remarked Emily Wring, Executive Director of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. “Through this competition, students from every corner of our state will be able to take what they have learned about the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution and apply it to today’s legal, social and political climates. It is our hope that, through this one-of-a-kind opportunity, they will expand and reaffirm their belief in the Constitutional Right to Trial by Jury.”

To apply for the 7th Amendment Scholarship Essay Competition, interested students should submit their completed application and essay to the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association no later than April 7th, 2014. A $1,000 Grand Prize and $500 First Runner-Up will be recognized at GTLA’s Annual Convention. Each one-time scholarship is non-renewable, and checks will be issued jointly to the educational institution and the recipients.
