Girls On Ice

The University of Alaska is sponsoring a 11 day summer enrichment experience for girls in the discipline of Geology.  This will take place in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State.  The itinerary looks like this:

Day 1: Meet the team

Day 2: Hike to basecamp at 6000 ft on Mt Baker

Day 3-9: Explore the glacier, the surrounding alpine meadows, and the upper mountain

Day 10: Hike back to the trailhead and travel to the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center

Day 11: Continue to explore the landscape and the experience through closure activities

Day 12: Head home.

The cool part of this is that everything is paid for except travel expenses to and from Washington State.  Applicants must be at least 16 years old and no older than 18 on the first day of the trip.  Applications are due by January 31, 2015.
