1. What is your admission type?
- Early Action
- Early Decision
- Regular Decision
- Rolling
- MOWR.
Many of our students and parents have no idea what these options mean. Check out the blog post from JLV college counseling that does a great job of explaining these options.
So now that I know what the definitions are, what do I pick? College admissions counselors from the school that your student is interested in applying is a great resource to help you determine the best application status for your student. They are very knowledgeable of the types of students that get in with each applicant pool. I would check with every school on your students list. Every office handles their applicant pool in a different manner. For example, several schools pull most of their applicants from the Early Decision pile because they want to pull the students that are truly wanting to be at their institution. They realize that students are applying to multiple colleges and they give "weight" to the students that are saying that their school is their number one pick. Other colleges may pull less from the Early Decision stack because they want to see their entire applicant pool before they release too many decisions. It is a college by college process. Check with your students college to see what is the best fit for your applicant.
Our office is also happy to help you navigate this process. We realize that these decisions can be difficult and we want to help you pick the best path for your student to be successful in this process. Please reach out to us if you have concerns or questions.
