Deadlines For College Admission

This time of year is filled with excitement and anticipation in the college admission world.  Students are working tirelessly to get their applications "just right" before they hit submit, teachers are writing away in an effort to get their letters of recommendation completed, and counselors are answering admission questions while also getting those letters and transcripts entered into the counselor portal.  During the hustle and bustle, here are the main things that students need to know:
  1.  Students need to meet the deadline that has been selected by the college.  For example, if you are applying to UGA or GT, that deadline is October 15th for early admission and January 1st for regular admission. We have an array of students during the application process.  These are the following types of applicants that we work with:
    • The ones that let us know in August that they have started on the process
    • Students that let us know in recent weeks
    • Students that let us know a few days before
    • Students that never notify us and we see their name in our portal (surprise!).
     2.  Students need to know that there are also deadlines for counselors and teachers.  We hope that the guide below will help you understand the process for all involved parties.
    1. For the student deadline:  The application must be submitted, application fee paid, and any other documents that you are responsible for submitted. You, the student, are responsible for meeting these deadlines.
    2. Document Deadline:  Counselors and Teachers have different deadlines from the students.  The goal is to have those documents submitted by the student deadline, however, leniency is in place to provide those school personnel with time to submit the volume of paperwork that is asked of them and to account for the last minute student applicants.
      1. University of Georgia sets the Counselor/Teacher Deadline of October 22nd (UGA Document Deadlines)
      2. Georgia Tech sets the deadline as December 1st (Georgia Tech Document Deadline)
This is an exciting time for our office and we want you to know that we are focused on our seniors, while trying to fulfill our other roles within the school.  Seniors, if you have not submitted your invitation for your counselor to complete their counselor evaluation, please do so.  If seniors have not submitted their senior information sheet to their counselor, please do so.  We use that form when writing our letters.  It benefits the student for us to have access to that information when writing his or her letter.  It provides us with information that can make our letters personal and provide context for the college application reader.

And lastly, breathe deeply!  We are in this together and are our seniors' biggest champions!
