Info about The University of Vermont

Campus Life: I had the opportunity to visit The University of Vermont, which is located in Burlington, VT. They have just over 10,000 undergraduate students, and total around 16,000 students with graduate students included. Burlington is beautiful! It is both on the water and surrounded by mountains, so it has a lot of outdoor activities, as well as an active music and cultural scene. The campus is just blocks away from downtown, so it's easily accessible to restaurants, the water, and all city events, like the weekend Farmer's Market. UVM is a diverse institution, with a lot to offer! UVM stands for 'University of the Green Mountains", which is appropriate considering that Vermont is the Green Mountain State.

Admissions Requirements and Process:
UVM has a holistic admissions process, with optional essays, available through the Common or Coalition Applications, but a letter of recommendation is required. They have both Early Action and Regular Decision. EA is due November 1st, and RD is January 15th. 60% of their first-year applicants from last year's class applied EA. You will pick a major and be admitted into the school that the major is in when applying.

This is the middle 50% class profile from the last admitted class:
3.7 GPA
SAT: 610-700 EBRW, 600-700 Math
ACT: 27-32

They do superscore both ACT and SAT.

Scholarships: There are a few out-of-state scholarships for students applying to UVM, but also encourage students to apply for scholarships outside of UVM, and give some pointers for that process. Some scholarships do require a separate application, and Early Action is the priority deadline for consideration. Some of the scholarships are school-specific, so if you are interested in Business or Engineering, for example, there's a scholarship for that group of students.

Majors/Minors: There are over 100 majors at UVM over 7 colleges (not counting the Honors College): Agriculture and Life Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Social Services, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, Environment and Natural Resources, and Nursing and Health Services. Their most popular majors are Business Administration and Management, Environmental Studies, Psychology, Nursing, and Mechanical Engineering.

Unique Programs/Helpful Info:
FOUR (Fellowship, Opportunities, and Undergraduate Research) is their office dedicated to students wanting to get involved in research. There are many options for students to pursue fellowships, both finding and funding research, and they have a yearly Student Research Conference that showcases all research done, both undergraduate and graduate, across disciplines. For Pre-Med Students, they can take advantage of the Enhancement Program, which helps students through the process of prepping for medical school.

Service Learning: UVM is committed to producing citizens who are heavily engaged in their community, and provide a wealth of opportunities, through classes to outside options, to become those people.

Visiting: Daily tours, as well as Open House days are available to prospective students, as well as add-on sessions for college-specific tours/information.
