New Format For College Visits

There are many important aspects to the college admission process but the "High School College Visit" is one that our students miss out on often. It is not because colleges don't visit our school, they do, now more than ever, it is that our students don't make it a priority to attend. They don't see the importance of the visit. We want our students/families to understand that this year's high school college visits will count more than ever. The high school visit is the chance for our students to interact "in person" with the individual that will read their application. Even if you could make an appointment to visit a college campus, your tour guide would not be the person that is going to read your application. So when students say that they don't need to attend the high school visit, they are missing the point!

Our schedule looks different this year so our college visit timeframe has also shifted. The visits will be virtual this year and they will be offered at 1:20-1:50 pm. This falls during a students study hall or 5th lunch, so all students should be allowed to attend the session of interest from their classroom or the place that they eat lunch. To attend the visit, a link will be provided to students through SCOIR on the day of the event. The link will be available through the college visit calendar on SCOIR. Students should bring headphones to plug into their Chromebook so that they can listen to the session without disturbing others. Students can register to attend college visits by logging into SCOIR and clicking on their visit of interest.

We have emailed our presentation on how to create a SCOIR account to our 10th & 11th graders. Our 12th graders were given the presentation last week. We have not mentioned this platform to 9th graders just yet. We didn't want to overwhelm them with learning about the college process when they haven't even gotten their minds wrapped around beginning high school. However, if a 9th grader is interested, the information to access SCOIR is listed below.

Both links are listed below:

We are excited about our college visit line up that starts on Monday, August 31st. Stay up to date on who is visiting our campus by looking at the college visit calendar on the NOHS counseling tab.
