Be Careful About Missing School!!

Please note clarifications in bold-italics from the announcement sent out earlier.  As always, thank you for your support for what your student does here at NOHS.

Parents and students need to be very careful with absences.  There is a new Board of Education rule regarding attendance that both students and parents would be wise to read very carefully.  You can access it by clicking on this link: https://eboard.eboardsolutions.com/ePolicy/policy.aspx?PC=JB-R(1)&Sch=4123&S=4123&RevNo=1.61&C=J&Z=R

Students now can have a credit withheld due to unexcused absences of days over five each semester.  This is new, and it needs to be considered closely throughout the year.  Please note that "excused" absences do not count toward this total.  Another new change is that a parent note can only count three absences as "excused" per semester.  All other absences beyond three must be a doctor's note in order to be deemed "excused."  Remember that your student does not get into the danger zone unless he or she has five unexcued absences.  This means that eight days (five unexcused and three parent note excused) can be missed with out the repercussions outlined in this policy.   Please go on the link above and read about these regulations to avoid a mess later on with absences.  Understand that the best way to avoid this pitfall is for the student to be at school.
