Campus Life: Emory University is divided into two colleges: Emory College in Atlanta, and Oxford College in Oxford, GA. Emory is their main campus, with 5,500 students, while Oxford is for the 1st 2 years of college, and has 979 enrolled students.
Admissions Requirements and Process: While they are under the same university, their application process is separate and students can apply to one or both colleges and be evaluated separately for each. Also, even though Emory has early decision (binding), it doesn't apply if you apply to both Oxford and Emory. So, if you are applying to both and get accepted to both, you can choose. It's the only time that loophole applies due to them being underneath the same university umbrella. Emory has three deadlines: Early Decision I: 11/1, Early Decision II: 1/1, and Regular Decision 1/1. 40% of their class comes from the Early Decision pools. If applying by November 1st, your decision is released by mid-December; if applying ED II in January, you'll know in March, and Regular Decision applicants will know April 1. Emory uses the Common or Coalition applications.
Emory University has a holistic review process, looking at the rigor of your courseload, your GPA, test scores (they superscore SAT), recommendations (need 3: 1 counselor, 2 teachers), essays (there are 2 supplemental, 150 word essays), and your extracurricular activities/community engagement. You are compared to other NOHS students applying.
Scholarships: The merit-based scholarship information is listed here and the representative spoke about their Emory Scholars Program, which to be considered for, you have to indicate you want to be on your application (there's a box to check), it has to be on the Early Decision I application, and there isn't an additional essay to do. Students will be notified in February if they are invited to campus. There are usually 75 students invited, and at that time, you find out if your award is 1/2-full tuition, all four years at Emory.
Majors/Minors: There are over 70 majors and 50 minors at Emory to choose from in 4 different schools: Emory College, Oxford College, Nursing, and Business. Nursing doesn't have a separate application process if you are taking the pre-nursing pre-requisites. 100% of their graduating class this past year passed the N-CLEX, which certifies you to practice nursing! The business acceptance rate is 85% from students the first time, and for the business school, you will apply your spring of your sophomore year.
Unique Programs/Helpful Info:
Wonderful Wednesdays, Songfest, and many more traditions are a part of Emory's fabric.
Wonderful Wednesdays are held each Wednesday when clubs are at the center of campus, organized by the student program council, to have fun activities and giveaways.
Songfest is an annual competition by first-years where they sing and compete against the other residence hall communities. They are judged by Emory administrators and it happens at the end of orientation.
35% of Emory students study abroad, and they offer programs over the summer, semester-long, and year-long programs, as well as nursing-specific opportunities over spring break. They go to all 7 continents!
Visiting: There are several ways to check out Emory! You can visit campus during their Open Houses, visit a class, or do a campus visit to a specific school.
