Purdue visits NOHS!

Campus Life: Purdue's main campus is located in West Lafayette, Indiana and is home to 31,000 undergraduate students. It's a Big 10 research land grant university. 53% of their students come from Indiana, with 31% from other states and 16% from other countries, so it's a diverse campus. Only 5% of their classes have over 100 students, with 87% of them having less than 50! There are about 100,000 people who live in West Lafayette. Purdue has matriculated 23 astronauts and has a hands-on, student-centric, dynamic environment.

Admissions Requirements and Process: Purdue has both early action and regular decision deadlines. Both are a holistic review process, evaluating the applicant on their coursework, grades, test scores, but also on their extracurriculars, essays, recommendations (optional but encouraged), and personal background/experiences. When applying, you will indicate your first choice major and your second choice one as well. You will be admitted into the school, and changing your major isn't always an option. Also, not all majors are allowed to be your second choice, so make sure to review their website to learn about what that looks like. You can use Common or Coalition app. to apply.

Their early action deadline is 11/1, and that's also the priority deadline for both computer science and engineering, so students interested in those fields need to apply then.

Students can self-report both their SAT/ACT scores and grades.Purdue also super scores both SAT and ACT. If admitted, you will have to provide an official transcript and official test scores from the testing agency (College Board or ACT).

Scholarships: To be considered for Merit-based scholarships, students need to apply by the Early Action deadline of November 1st. There is a supplemental application that is due by December 15th. The two major scholarships are the Trustees and Presidential, but a full list is on their website.

The University President has frozen the cost of attendance for 7 years!!

Majors/Minors: Purdue has over 200 majors within 11 colleges. STEM is a big field for them, especially their Engineering programs (#3 in the nation). They also have the 23rd best Management degree in the nation. Other popular majors are Hospitality and Tourism Management, Aviation/Airport Management, and Animation

Unique Programs/Helpful Info:

Degree in Three: This is a program to have students finish their major within 3 years. The College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education offers some of their majors on a 3-year track, which enables students to enter into the workforce or seek a graduate degree early.

There are over 1,000 student organizations at Purdue, so there is definitely something for everyone! There are also many multicultural centers: Asian-American, Native American, Black, Latino, and LGBTQ Centers are all located on campus for those students.

Purdue also has a lot of traditions (too many to list!), from the Boiler Gold Rush to the Free Ride Friday. Check them all out here!

Visiting: There are several ways to see Purdue: online on their virtual tour, in person at one of their campus tours, open house events on campus for prospective students or if you're admitted, and also regional events when they are in the Athens/Atlanta area.
