Campus Life: Though UNG has 5 campuses, this post focuses on the UNG-Dahlonega campus, which is their main one with 7,000 undergraduate students. The average class size is 22 students, and their art class is one the biggest with 60.
Admissions Requirements and Process: To apply to UNG, you use your GAFutures account to access the application and send your transcript. They use your numbers to evaluate you as an applicant, so your GPA and test scores are used to determine admission. Even though the minimum GPA is a 2.0, the average is a 3.6. For test scores, the ACT minimums are a 20 on English and an 18 on Math; SAT minimums are a 480 on the Math and a sub-score of 26 on the Reading. You have to submit your official test scores from College Board or ACT. Deadlines for Early Action is November 15th, Regular is February 15th.
Scholarships: Since UNG is a part of the University System of Georgia, they do accept Zell Miller and HOPE. They also have scholarship opportunities for students, which require an essay, which is only used for the scholarship application, not your admissions one. They want you to be detailed in your involvement and leadership throughout high school, both within the school environment and within the larger community.
Majors/Minors: UNG has over 100 areas of study in 7 colleges, with majors, pre-professional programs, certificate programs, and minors.
Unique Programs/Helpful Info:
Cadets: This is a popular program at UNG, and even without a ROTC program at the high school level, you can join the Cadets at UNG. Their website details what each year and the summers in between look like, and you can choose to end your cadet career at any time, unlike if you are at a military academy. Cadets live in suite-style dorm rooms.
There are three different dorm styles: traditional, suite style, and apartment style. Also, Freshman are required to have a meal plan in both the traditional and suite style residences. The suites have 4 people, with 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms. The apartment style, which is Owen Hall, houses 4 people in each apartment, with your own bedroom and 2 bathrooms. The common area has a living room and kitchen. The apartments are reserved for upperclassmen, and a limited number of freshman. You can request a specific person to be your roommate, but both people have to request the other one.
