Campus Life: Gordon State is located in Barnesville, GA and has about 3,900 students, offering both Associate's and Bachelor's degrees. They were established in 1852, and is the second oldest continuously operating public college. For a smaller school, they have over 40 clubs/organizations for students to participate in, a strong intramural sports program, and a full calendar of activities for students!
Admissions Requirements and Process: To apply, you go through your GA Futures account. Their deadline to apply for Fall is July 15th, but encourage you to apply earlier than the deadline. They will use your transcript to look at your courses taken and your GPA, as well as your test scores for admission.
Scholarships: They have many institutional scholarships, with the Gordon Foundation Scholarship being the largest they offer, ranging from $400 to $3000 annually. They also accept the HOPE/Zell Miller, and have an active financial aid department to help look at what others types of grants and funding students can get for college.
Majors/Minors: Gordon has expanded over the years, adding 12 Bachelor degrees to their historical Associate-degree focus. They also have 16 Associate degree. Nursing, both at the Associate and Bachelor degree levels, is highly popular, with their 2013-2016 nursing classes all graduating, having 5 job offers, and all passed the CLEP exam to practice. Their Engineering Associate's degree has a 93% success rate in going to Georgia Tech compared to 85% acceptance if the student went to a technical school or community college for their Associate's, so they are great at preparing students for what is next!
Unique Programs/Helpful Info: While on-campus housing isn't required, living in a residence hall is an option for students, with 3 dorms available for students to consider: Gordon Village, Melton Hall, and Gordon Commons.
