To start us off, I'd like to introduce myself as a
representative of The University of Georgia. More specifically, I am the
current President for an organization on campus named Students for
Latin@ Empowerment. Students for Latin@ Empowerment is a
progressive organization with the purpose of providing Latino students on
campus with opportunities to exercise community involvement as well as social,
political, and cultural activism. SLE encourages students at UGA to work
together to enact social change through the creation of programs and activities
that benefit the community.
An upcoming leadership conference
SLE is proud to introduce is Si Se Puede! It
will be held on April 18th, 2015. The event name translates to
"Yes you can!", and it's a program in which we invite Latin@
high school students (9- 11th Grade ) from the different
areas. The event seeks to encourage current high school students to
pursue higher education. Attendees will be participating in several
workshops, which will include topics such as the college application process,
applying for financial aid, and the importance of pursuing a post-secondary
education. Motivational speakers will be in attendance, demonstrating to
attendees the importance of engaging in the Latino community and being strong
leaders.
Attached is the parental consent that needs to
be turned in to you or another specified counselor. We are unable to provide
transportation , but we are hopeful that Oconee will be able to participate! We
will provide Breakfast AND Lunch!
