Juniors on October 14th: PSAT or ASSET? Gotta Pick One...

To JUNIORS and Parents of JUNIORS:

On October 14th, 2015, the PSAT and ASSET will be given at North Oconee High School.  Every junior will take one of these tests on this day.  Please read the information below, because action on your part is required!

For Juniors planning on going to college:

The PSAT is your test that you will want to take that day.  The version that will be given is modeled to the new format of the SAT.  In case you haven't heard, the SAT is changing dramatically, and in almost every case, your student will have to take the new formatted test.  It is in your student's best interest for him or her to take this practice-format of the new SAT before they take the real, new SAT.  In essence, it is a practice shot, and that always increases a student's chances at better performance on later attempts.

Since your student is going to college, and the SAT is a college "entrance" exam, you will want to register for the PSAT, which will cost $17.  Registration is quick and easy by going to PSAT Registration.  The deadline to register is October 2nd.  If you are unable to pay, there is assistance available through the registration website.

The benefits of taking the PSAT:
1) practice (as already mentioned)
2) connection to high-quality, personalized test prep that is FREE through Khan Academy
3) entrance into the National Merit Scholarship Competition

Don't forget to register at PSAT Registration!!

For Juniors who are NOT planning on going to college:

We are also giving the ASSET on October 14th.  The ASSET is a entrance exam for technical colleges.  Tech schools provide training in service areas that make students graduating from one of their program very marketable.  Entrance into these programs is based upon performance on the ASSET.  Unlike the PSAT, the ASSET that will be given on the 14th is "official," and the score can work to get a student in to Tech School for five years.  Students can retake the exam later on if scores from the October 14th test are not good.

The ASSET is free to all test takers.  We are limited on seating for this test, so please register by October 2nd.  To register for this test, please go to Register for the ASSET.

The benefits of taking the ASSET:
1) practice for the ASSET
2) score is valid and get you in to a technical college for 5 years
3) students will learn more about the options and programs available at Athens Technical College on October 14th as well.

Don't for get to register at Register for the ASSET.

All JUNIORS must pick one these two tests to take...
