Parents of juniors:
I got a great question today, and I figure if one person is wondering, many are. Here is the question:
I'm wondering why all juniors have to take the PSAT or the ACCESS. My kid is scheduled to take the SAT on 10/3 and has already taken the PSAT twice so I'm not really worried about her taking it again. Can you please help me understand?
Here are the reasons to take the PSAT:
1- It will be a practice format for the new SAT, and will be the first exposure that a student can have to the new format. It is great practice that will allow a student to be exposed to the revamped version of the new SAT.
2- By taking the PSAT, each test taker will have a personalized test prep, tailor made to their needs and weaknesses to help them become an even better SAT test taker. This program will be offered through Khan Academy, a free, on-line, video-based educational resource.
3- It is a qualifier test for the National Merit Scholarship. This is a tough award to win, but by winning it, your student could be eligible for full-ride scholarships at many colleges. This is a big deal, but make no mistake, it is tough to win.
Three reasons. Three bonuses, all for the small price of $17. Heck, even the Princeton Review book to prep for the SAT is $14.16 on Amazon, and the Khan Academy program is more interactive that the big, fat test prep book!
ALL JUNIORS WHO DO NOT REGISTER TO TAKE THE PSAT WILL TAKE THE ASSET ON 10/14/2015.
The ASSET is a great placement exam for students wishing to enroll in Technical College. These scores are valid for 5 years and can help a student to be admitted to Technical College upon graduation.
