What Are You Doing this Summer?

Summers are when students build their resumes for college and scholarship applications.  We are in the process of meeting with juniors and the common thread that runs through many of the regrets that students voice is how they have not built the kind of resumes necessary for competitive colleges.  Summer programs are essential, and here is a good one for students who are interested in social studies:

Boys and Girls State

Each summer the American Legion hosts a Model Senate that they call Boys State or Girls State.  Students who are interested in seeking to gain admission to a Service Academy are strongly encouraged to attend one of these.  Vickie Burroughs is our contact for admission into this program.  Here is a quick note to you about this opportunity:

It is our hope that North Oconee High School will be able to discover there are a few more bright, intelligent, and ambitious students eager to take part in such a wonderful program this summer.

The link to Georgia Boys State is http://www.dogboysstate.org/. The link to Georgia Girls State is http://www.georgiagirlsstate.org. Those sites contain all the information about the program, the application forms, schedule of events, what they need to bring, etc.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me and I will be glad to answer any questions.
