Counselor Update

I wanted to take a moment to provide an update to students and parents on why your level of service might have been a little slower last week and will remain so for the next few weeks.  The three counselors at NOHS serve 1,268 students that have a myriad of needs.  Currently, we are at the point where we have to prioritize and a parent/student that is not in immediate need of assistance might have to wait a little longer than normal as a result of the high demand we are encountering in our office. Currently, our priority has to be seniors as they are applying for post secondary institutions that have deadlines quickly approaching.  Senior meetings, college applications, and writing letters of recommendations have to be at the top of our list right now.  If you are a senior and we have not completed our portion of your application,  please know that we are working fervently on getting those completed and hope to have them completed by your deadlines.   However, if they are not, counselors are allowed an extension as a result of our high case loads and other demands.  For example, UGA allows us to submit our portion of the application up until October 22nd.  Georgia Tech and other schools provide an extension as well.  We are working extended hours in an attempt to get it all done.  Your patience is greatly appreciated so that we can continue to serve our students to the highest level possible.

If you are in need of assistance with issues that are not immediate, please email your counselor and we can schedule a meeting in the weeks to come to address those needs.  We are beginning to get schedule change requests.  We will release schedules later in the semester and will handle schedule changes at that time.

We want to serve all of our students and families to the best of our abilities and consider all of our students as important, it is during this busy season that we ask for understanding as we are trying to help our seniors achieve their goals that they have worked four years to attain.
