Film Festival Competition

Dear Christy,
We invite you to help us celebrate the creative spirit and beauty of the region by encouraging your students to participate in the SOUTH GEORGIA FILM FESTIVAL,March 2-4, 2018 at Valdosta State University.
The second annual South Georgia Film Festival is an open film competition for high school students, college students, and filmmakers of all ages. While we are looking to showcase films under 15 minutes in length, we are open to animation, narrative, documentary and experimental genres. We want to emphasize the growing film community in the Southeast (Georgia, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina).
All films must be submitted through FilmFreeway.com. Entry fees are extremely low for participants ($10 by the November 1 deadline / $20 by the December 15deadline),
but we are offering your school a waiver of all fees with the code:
                                                                                FutureBlazer

Along with our wonderful trophy and prizes from local sponsors there are tremendous Scholarship Opportunities for our overall winners in both the High School and College categories.
All participants will be invited to attend the screenings at the Student Union Theater on our beautiful campus at Valdosta State University. Along with film screenings, we will have panels and discussions with regional film and media makers, including this year’s guest Brantly Jackson Watts. Brantly recently served as a Filmmaker in Residence at the Atlanta Film Festival. Her film BIRTHDAY CAKE, screened at the Atlanta Film Festival, Sidewalk Film Festival, and many more.
Winners will be announced Sunday, March 4 at 1 pm. Only attending filmmakers will be eligible for the overall prizes. Filmmakers will be notified by February 26, 2018 if their works will be screening during the festival.
Films will be judged by experts from the region. Students in Valdosta State University’s Mass Media program will be participating as screeners in the open and high school categories. Beyond the overall winners, films will also be recognized by our judges for various areas of achievement – such as best use of prompts, cinematography, production design and acting.
We look forward to having you and your students be a part of this experience. For more information, please direct students to:
