The PROBE Fair (College Fair) is scheduled for Thursday,
September 20th. It will be held at the
Classic Center in downtown Athens from 6 pm to 8 pm. Remember that it is free and AWESOME! 100+ colleges will be in attendance and you
will be demonstrating interest in every college you stop to talk to. Why is demonstrating interest in a college
important?
Colleges will often stop by NOHS for a campus visit. During their time at NOHS, several admission
reps have disclosed that a student who has never demonstrated interest in their
college has almost a zero chance of being accepted if they apply. Demonstrating interest helps the college see
that there is an established pattern of desire from a student the he or she is
interested in that college as their first choice. The more interested a student is in a college
before they are accepted, the higher the likelihood that the student will
actually enroll AND contribute to the college environment once they are on
campus. That is why it is a big deal to
them. So, how do you "demonstrate
interest" in a college?
- follow them on twitter/facebook/admission blog
- go for a campus tour WITH an appointment
- email the admissions counselor who serves our area
- fill out an information card at the college's table at the PROBE (we have an easier method detailed below)
- if a college is visiting NOHS, make sure that you attend that meeting
**This is not an exhaustive list.
Make plans to attend Thursday night! There will not be another time that you will
have access to numerous colleges in one place!
This is a great place for students and parents to begin to explore
college options. Mark your calendar and
make plans to attend!
