Dear Senior:
The Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc. invites area seniors to its 2018 Scholarship Orientation on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Athens Regional Library, 2025 Baxter Street, Athens. AAHRC will soon be selecting students to receive scholarships at our 40th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Banquet in January 2019. To qualify, you must attend the orientation and be a high school senior attending high school in one of our member-represented counties: Clarke, Madison, Oconee, or Oglethorpe. You must graduate at the end of the 2018-2019 academic year.
Applicants must complete an application package. With the package include an official high school transcript, a copy of your S.A.T. or A.C.T. scores, and two letters of recommendation forms. You must provide a non-school district e-mail address to receive correspondence from AAHRC, i.e.johndoe@gmail.com or janedoe@yahoo.com. Members of the Human Relations Council may not write recommendations for applicants. In addition, you will need to write an essay on a topic pertaining to human relations (see end of application). Be sure to have someone proofread your application and essay.
Applications and supporting materials (official transcripts, test scores, and letters of recommendation) must be post-marked by October 27, 2018. Applicants will be notified of their status by December 2018. The awards banquet will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at The Classic Center, 300 North Thomas Street in downtown Athens at 7:00 pm. Each student awarded a scholarship must attend the banquet and will be given a complimentary ticket as our guest. Additional tickets are $45 each and need to be purchased in advance.
Again, to receive a scholarship application, students must attend the scholarship orientation on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Athens Regional Library, 2025 Baxter Street, Athens at 6:00 pm.
