Vanderbilt visits NOHS!

Campus Life: Vanderbilt is located in Nashville, TN, close to downtown, but also tucked away enough to create a college atmosphere within the larger city.  94% students live on campus all 4 years, and with guaranteed housing with a growing metropolis, it's a great opportunity for students to take advantage of! Vandy has an admittance rate of 9.6%, with 6,800 undergraduate students (plus 5,600 graduate students); it is a mid-size (12,500 total students) research institution and are the only private SEC school.

Admissions Requirements and Process: Vanderbilt has three different admissions plans, with Early Decision I and II being binding, while Regular Decision is not.
--Early Decision I is November 1, Early Decision II is January 1: 50% of their upcoming class will be admitted from their ED I and II.
--Regular Decision--also due January 1.

Vandy is a holistic review for all three application pools, and the application can be found on Common or Coalition applications. They are looking at your academic achievement, testing (superscore SAT, do NOT superscore ACT, don't evaluate writing score, SAT-II are optional but will be considered), essay, extracurricular activities (want to see highly engaged students), Counselor recommendation, and Academic Recommendation (2 are needed, strong preference from Junior or Senior year teachers). They will accept an additional recommendation, but ONLY include it if absolutely needed. The example our representative, Lena Andrews, gave was if you are heavily involved in activities outside of school that your teachers or Counselor can not speak to, then it can be helpful, but don't include another teacher or redundant information they already have from your application.

For AP credits, the Engineering and Arts and Sciences colleges cap credit at 18 hours, but the other schools don't have a cap.

Scholarships: If you are applying for merit-based scholarships, then you will need to apply by the ED I deadline, since the scholarship deadline is December 1st. The merit-based scholarship is an additional application, so make sure to read the directions thoroughly to make that deadline!

Vandy does look at the FAFSA/CSS profile to determine aid. Also, the Princeton Review just named Vanderbilt the #1 in Financial Aid!

Vanderbilt also prides itself on it's net-price calculator accuracy, with a thorough process to determine within $1000 of what your cost of attendance will be.

Majors/Minors: There are 10 total schools at Vanderbilt, with 4 dedicated to undergraduate students. The four schools are: Arts and Sciences, School of Music, School of Engineering, and Peabody (Education and Human Development). Vanderbilt also has multiple pre-professional programs, and study help for both the LSAT (law school) and MCAT (med school).

Unique Programs/Helpful Info: More than 50% of undergraduate students complete research during there tenure, and with the Immersion Vanderbilt program, they provide the resources in order to get it going, including an annual research fair for students to display and learn about research opportunities.
