Columbus State visits NOHS!

Campus Life: Columbus State is located in Columbus, GA, which is the 2nd largest city in Georgia, and have about 8,400 students across their two campuses (one main campus and one downtown-RiverPark). They have an 18:1 student/teacher ratio, and focus on 6 core values: Inclusion, Creativity, Servant Leadership, Engagement, Sustainability, and Excellence. They are NCAA Division II, with 15 sports teams.

Main Campus
Admissions Requirements and Process:  November 15th is the first set of admissions decisions they release, and are on a rolling admissions process after that point. Students need at least a 2.5 core GPA (academics only), and at least a 17 on the ACT (both in English and Math), or a subscore on the SAT of 24 for Reading and 22.5 for Math. While these are minimums, their last admitted class averaged a 3.18 GPA and a 21 ACT and 27(both sections) SAT. They do superscore for both ACT and SAT. They don't require recommendations or any additional information, just go on the numbers from testing and your transcript!

Scholarships: The priority deadline for scholarships is January 31st, they are stackable, and some require separate applications. The Honors College is also a separate application as well, so if you have a 3.5 GPA and a 1200 on the SAT or a 26 on the ACT, then look into that opportunity!

Majors/Minors: CSU has 65 undergraduate majors over 4 colleges (not including Honors College): Arts, Education and Health Professionals, Letters and Sciences, and Business. The most popular majors are Nursing, Education, Computer Science, Biology, and Business.

Unique Programs/Additional Info: There are over 150 student organizations, and they encourage students to create their own clubs if a particular niche is not represented on campus. It only takes 6 students and a faculty advisor. One example the representative gave was Campus Nerds, which was created by a group of students and now it's grown into a popular one on campus!

All freshmen are required to live on campus their first year, but the setup is nice! There is housing on both the main and RiverPark campuses, with traditional and suite style living, depending on the dorm.

Servant Leadership Program: This is a unique opportunity for students who desire to serve others over their time at CSU, and are a part of this special program, which provides a stipend for the student all 4 years as long as the community service and other requirements are fulfilled.

Visiting Campus: There are Discovery Days, which are special Saturdays set aside to learn more about life at CSU. The upcoming dates for this year are November 17th, February 16th, and March 30th. They also have visits during the weekdays as well!
