College Visits @ NOHS!

Fall semester is the time of year that college representatives visit high school campuses to talk with students about their particular college and the opportunities available on their campus.  The NOHS Counseling Office would like to invite students grades 9-12 to attend the college admission visits on our campus (in the PLC by the counseling office) during Titan Time.

Our current scheduled visits are below.  We will update the college visit calendar on the NOHS Counseling Website throughout the year.

Why do we want our students to attend a college visit session?
  • Typically, the college admission representative that visits our school is the rep that reads the applications from NOHS and makes an admission decision for our student.  Forming a connection with an admission rep can prove to be informational & useful as you move through the application process.
  • College admissions has changed.  The current process can be filled with words/terms that may be unfamiliar for students.  The more that they hear them and about the process, the more it will make sense and better equip them to handle the process.
  • Are you taking the right coursework to get to where you want to go?  Every college has different requirements and characteristics that are important to their school culture.  If a student wants to make sure that they are a good fit for a campus, they need to come and hear about the school/program.  Senior year is often too late for students to "figure out" if they have taken the right classes for a program or university.  Freshman and sophomore year is the perfect time to come in and absorb the information that is being presented.
  • You don't miss any class time.  The visits are scheduled during Titan Time to allow students the opportunity to meet with colleges without interrupting the school day.  Please take advantage of this privilege and make the most of this resource.  A college rep from Vanderbilt is going to be an expert on the college admission process to Vandy, take advantage of having access to that person without travelling to TN!
  • If your student says that they have been on the campus for an official visit and don't need to come- WRONG!  Yes, you may have toured the school and that is a valuable part of the process, however, you have not met the representative for our region.  Why would you miss out on the chance to connect with someone that will be reading your file versus a random admission rep that showed you the campus?
  • Juniors and seniors, why should you come?  Have you finalized your college list?  Don't miss out on a scholarship or college that might be a good fit because you didn't know about them!  Come and check out schools that are on your radar and we recommend listening to the ones that aren't.  You never know what gem you might find by checking out a college that you are unfamiliar- it might be a great fit for you!
