Important Senior Information!

The senior year is an exciting time!  The NOHS counseling office is aware that many things look different for your student this spring.  We want to ensure that you have up to date information on the best way to move forward when finalizing their post-secondary decisions.  Please check out the suggestions below that best fit your student.

Are you undecided about your next steps in the college process?  Here are a list of to-do's that might help you navigate the system:
  • Has your family been impacted financially as a result of the COVID-19 virus?  Do you think it will continue to impact your family income?  If so, please reach out to the financial aid office at the college that your senior has been accepted to and plans to attend.  Sharing your situation will help the office determine how much financial aid your student qualifies for based on the current situation.
  • Have you been accepted to multiple schools and are undecided where you want to attend?  Colleges are offering online one on one sessions to talk with admission representatives to answer your specific questions, they are hosting virtual online visits, and various other online activities to help you make the best decision for you. Check out the admission webpages of the colleges that you are considering to learn more about what they are offering and when. Still feel torn, would you like to hear from an NOHS alumni that attended the institution you are considering?  The NOHS Counseling office could try to connect you with one of our alumni that can shed some light on their transition to the campus and experiences that they consider important in making a decision.
  • Check your commitment date deadline! Some colleges are moving to a June 1st commitment deadline, but not all.  Many of the colleges are staying at May 1st.  Make sure that you are committing by the deadline.  Colleges are very unsure of what the current situation is going to do with their enrollment numbers and will pull from their waitlist ASAP.  You don't want to lose your spot because you thought they were moving to a June 1st deadline and the didn't. If your family is unable to pay the commitment deposit at this time, please convey your situation to the admission office.  Many colleges have plans in place to help with this dilemma.
***Overall theme, communicate, communicate, communicate about what you need and questions that you have!  Make sure that you are checking your email and checking their social media outlets!  Many colleges are trying to get their programming out to students and students are not reading their emails to realize what options are available!

Colleges and your counselors are here to help answer any questions that we can!

If your student is planning to enter the workforce, we recommend for students to reach out to the industry that they are planning to seek employment and inquire how COVID-19 has impacted their business and what things look like moving forward.

Let your counselor know if you have any questions or need any help!  We are here to be a resource!

If your student is planning to enlist in the military, our office recommends for students to reach out to the recruiter of the branch of interest to determine next steps.  Many offices are closed but they can respond to emails and make phone calls.
