UGA Pre-College Scholars programs for the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR)

My name is John Maerz. I am a professor at UGA and serve as the chair of the Pre-College Scholars programs for the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR).  SSAR is the largest international herpetological society and offers a diversity of programs to promote herpetology at all career stages including pre-college students. SSAR is pleased to announce that it will offer an expanded and more accessible Pre-College Scholars Program beginning in January 2022 that will culminate with the opportunity for some selected participants to be Founders Fellows who attend the 2022 SSAR annual meeting (https://ssarherps.org/meetings/).

Students from the Athens area including a recent graduate of Clarke Central High School have been prior Pre-College Scholars participants and Founders Fellows who have attended and presented at the International Conference. I also know from our interactions within the local community and tours we conduct at UGA that you have students in your schools that are interested in careers in herpetology or wildlife.

I would be grateful if you would share our program information with your students and teachers. If anyone has any questions, they can contact me.

Thank you,

Dr. John C. Maerz
