The Moore's Ford Memorial Committee offered endowed scholarships to commemorate four African Americans-George & Mae Murray Dorsey and Roger & Dorothy Malcolm-killed by a lynch mob on July 25, 1946 at the Moore's Ford bridge near Monroe, Georgia. These scholarship encourage community service, social justice and racial healing. Eight annual awards of $1000 each are given to graduating seniors from the eight public high schools in Athens-Clarke, Morgan, Oconee and Walton Counties.
