This announcement is SUPER important for students to consider. Work Based Learning and the Young Dawgs program can open doors for students in a variety of ways. What is work based learning and Young Dawgs?
Work Based Learning- a course that is offered off of school campus at a place of business or industry. Students should have an "area" of interest that they would like to work. Students should have completed/enrolled in 2 CTAE related courses in content specific courses to qualify for the program. Competitive students should be good students, have excellent attendance, and a clear discipline record. The student will earn a grade in the course and a credit towards graduation requirements. Some places of employment are paid internships and others are not.
Young Dawgs- a collaborative program between the University of Georgia and Oconee County Schools. This program allows students to apply that have strong GPA's, attendance, and are interested in being on a college campus, serving as an assistant to a professor. This program can boost a students resume and introduce them to opportunities that create an impressive background in academics and lab experiences. The student will earn a grade in the course and a credit towards graduation requirements.
If your student is SLIGHTLY interested in learning more about the program- SEE Mrs. Taylor or Mrs. Frutiger. Every year we have students that would have loved to participate in the program, once they figured out what it is, but they missed the deadline. Don't let that be you!
All rising juniors and seniors interested in applying for the Work-Based Learning and/or Young Dawgs program for the 2019-2020 school year need to see Mrs. Frutiger (room 2128) or Mrs. Taylor to start the application process. Deadline to apply: February 15th. Space is limited, first-come basis!
