Welcome Back Students and Parents!!!

North Oconee Guidance Counselors and Staff want to welcome you all back to what is going to be an amazing school year.  We have been working a lot of overtime to make sure that every student is ready with the best possible class schedule and armed with the solid advice that you have come to expect from your student's counselor.  Throughout this year, we want to make sure that you know all of the ways that we are here to help you.

The BLOG Page-

The Guidance Blog is the most important link that you will have to NOHS and helping your student maximize the opportunities that this world-class school offers.  The Blog has constant updates with timely information.  You are reading this because you are subscribed to receive emails.  If you have a friend who also has a student at NOHS, let them know about this great source.  At some point this year, this BLOG page will change and relocate.  Details on how to stay connected to this resource will come out well in advance of the switch over, so until you hear more, stay tuned to this page!

Parent and Student Meetings-

The Guidance Office sponsors about ten events each year that are designed to connect both student and parent to the the future.  At the beginning of the school year, we host Student and Parent Grade Level Meetings.  These meetings are packed with great information about helping students both graduate and realize their post-high school goals.  PSAT (Practice SAT) and PLAN (Practice ACT) information sessions later in the school year will allow students and parents to use PSAT and PLAN results to begin to map out plans for beyond high school.  Noches Hispania is a event that reaches out to our Latina families to provide information about North Oconee and college.  ACCEL Parent Night is designed to help students who are interested in taking college courses while still in high school.  Financial Aid Parent Meeting in January will connect parents of seniors with resources to help pay for college. There are other events that pop up as we move throughout the year.  To be in the KNOW, remember to check this blog out.

Junior and Senior Meetings-

In the fall of the senior year, the counselors meet with each individual senior for about 45 minutes to verify that we are "on-track" for graduation and that preparations are being carried out for the plans that have been made for post graduation.  Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule a meeting at a time that they can attend these meetings.  The more ears hearing this information, the better.

In the spring of the junior year, the counselors will meet with juniors individually for about 45 minutes.  Once again, parents are encouraged to be at these meetings.  We will announce (through this blog) when we are ready to start taking appointments.

We love having the opportunity to be a part of your student's success.  The three-person team (Parent, Student, Counselor) is a powerful force to achieve goals.  We look forward to serving you and your student.
