#1. Seniors often feel that UNG-Oconee is a back up plan that they can put in place in April after they hear back from their schools of choice . The earlier deadline and anticipation that the campus will fill up late March/early April may mean that it in fact it is not an option for our students by that late of date. Moral of this story- Seniors, get your application in asap. If you have questions email your counselor for assistance.
#2. You were expecting to apply as a Move On When Ready student for fall semester. The new March priority deadline could cause some of our students to readjust their SAT/ACT test schedule. If your student is taking the SAT/ACT in February or March- please make sure that UNG is listed as one of the four colleges that can get your scores for free (this is completed when you register for the test. Changes can be made up until the test day). If you have not registered for the SAT or ACT yet and want to joint enroll at UNG-Oconee, all is not lost. You can register for an I-SAT or I-ACT and meet the admissions deadline. Those are institutional exams that are offered through UNG. An institutional test is offered throughout the semester and allows students to take an exam for college admissions for that university only. The cost is around $80.00 and the results are known fairly quickly. If your student is adamant about taking a MOWR course at UNG and you are worried about missing the deadline, this might be an option to consider.
A statement from UNG is below for your viewing:
Good Afternoon!
I apologize for the confusion lately regarding the dual enrollment deadline. To keep you all in the loop, there is a possibility that UNG-Oconee could hit capacity for Fall 2017 by March. As you all know, our little campus has been hitting its maximum enrollment capacity earlier and earlier each year. The website outlines that the priority deadline for dual enrollment is May 1st, however this is not a set-in-stone date. Looking at our past application numbers, and comparing that to the influx of applications we have in currently for Fall 2017, it appears that Oconee could fill up before May 1st. It is highly encouraged that dual enrollment students complete the admissions process much sooner, as early as March 15th. Once capacity for dual enrollment students is met on a physical campus, others wishing to participate in the MOWR program would be required to do so through online enrollment. For a high school student, this is typically not ideal, which is why we suggest applying and submitting your documents as soon as possible.
We realize that this gives students approximately 2 months to gather up their documents. Keep in mind, for anyone who has not tested SAT or ACT at this point, that we do offer out ISAT and IACT at UNG. These tests are great options for students who need test scores fast. We get these scores back in a few weeks and are automatically uploaded into our system. I spoke with our testing coordinator at Oconee and she assured that even if we need to book a bigger room, we can accommodate as many test takers as we need.
