We are excited to announce Georgia Tech now offers an online version of CS 1301, an introductory Computer Science course, to dual enrollment students as part of our Distance Learning program. We invite students who are interested in computer science to apply!

CS 1301: Introduction to Computing is a one-semester program worth three credit hours. We will enroll students for the fall and spring semesters this upcoming academic year.

About the course:
CS 1301 teaches students foundational computing principles, such as writing, reading, and debugging computer code. Students learn the basics of computer science in the Python programming language. This course is commonly taken by industrial engineering, business, liberal arts, and science majors. Students who score a 4 or 5 on AP Computer Science A can earn credit for this course.

Upon completion of CS 1301, students will...

  • Be able to use and combine control flow constructs to form useful programs.
  • Understand and be familiar with a number of simple data structures.
  • Understand the process and skills needed to effectively deal with problem solving in relation to writing programs.
  • Be able to test and debug programs.
  • Understand how to employ functions and modularity.
  • Be comfortable with common software packages in use today.
  • Be able to program in Python, including variables, operators, loops, conditionals, functions, error handling, and advanced data structures.
  • Understand applications of programming to computer graphics and human-computer interaction.
Course format:
CS 1301 is a fully online course instructed via recorded lectures, optional recitations, and discussion forums. Students take four online exams. Each exam has a four-day submission window to allow for scheduling flexibility.
